    What You Need to Know

Urban Future is excited to share some significant news for homeowners in Western Australia regarding the WA Battery Rebate program. Starting on July 1, 2025, the WA Government will introduce a rebate program designed to encourage the adoption of residential battery systems. This initiative will not only support the transition to renewable energy but also help households reduce their energy costs.

Overview of the Battery Rebate Program

The government plans to offer 20,000 rebates for residential battery installations, with the amount varying based on the electricity provider:

    • For Synergy Customers: A rebate of up to $5,000, calculated at $500 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for batteries with a capacity of up to 10 kWh.
    • For Horizon Power Customers: Up to $7,500 available, with a rebate of $750 per kWh for the same capacity.

Additionally, there will be no-interest loans of up to $10,000 aimed at assisting lower to middle-income households in participating in this program.

How the Program Will Be Implemented

The rollout will take place in several phases, beginning on or before July 1, 2025. A qualified third-party service provider will manage the program, ensuring efficient implementation and support for applicants.

    Eligibility Criteria

While the government is still developing the final terms, here are the key eligibility points:

    • Residential Properties: The program is open to residential properties in WA, including home businesses.
    • Electricity Accounts: Eligible properties must have a residential account with either Synergy or Horizon Power.
    • Exclusions: Properties owned by government entities, financial institutions, and certain corporations will not qualify.
    • Rebate Limit: The program limits each property connection to one rebate. However, landlords with long-term tenants may be eligible for additional support.

    Requirements for Battery Systems

To qualify for the rebate, battery systems must:

    • Be new, additional, or replacement systems with a minimum capacity of 5 kWh.
    • Be capable of integrating with a Virtual Power Plant. Meaning the system must connect to the grid and respond to energy management signals.
